The Art Gallery is delighted to present to you “George Town Urban Oasis” by Lim Jee Yuan. This will be his first solo exhibition, and the exhibition consists of 27 watercolour paintings and 10 oil paintings, giving a total of 37 paintings.
The title of this exhibition is “George Town Urban Oasis” because Jee Yuan wants to remind people of the simplicity of life and how we can find tranquility in urban living if we take a breather and look for it. “For me, there are precious moments in everyday life. I like to capture such moments, such as fishermen at work, old buildings and the roots of old trees. Such simplicity, yet they are precious in their own ways. As humans and technology keep progressing, our future generations may miss such simplicity in life.”
His strength in his watercolour is his skill in applying various green shades to his paintings. “There are so many colours in the greens if we care to look at the trees and plants. Yellow, oranges, browns, reds, blues, and even purples are in the greens. They also change with the times of the day, the lighting conditions and the seasons. The greens also appear different in the light and in the shade. They are all very soothing to tired eyes and engulf your presence with shade, breezes, peace and tranquility.”
