I am delighted to host Khoo Cheang Jin’s 11th solo exhibition “Kopi + O + Peng (Penang Kopitiam Series)”. This is the second time that he is having his solo exhibition with us at The Art Gallery.For this exhibition, there will be a total of 26 paintings with 22 paintings of old-school Penang kopitiams. Other than the traditional heritage shop house setting, Cheang Jin has also included three that are out of this category, namely, the Taman Free School hawker stalls where the kopitiam is just under some big trees and shaded by metal sheet roof; the coffee stall at the side of the Campbell Street Market; and the Air Itam kopitiam which is housed under a metal structure. Last but not least, there is a painting showing Cheang Jin’s favourite and typical breakfast at a kopitiam.
